Enhancing Air Connectivity from Kansai to Central Vietnam

Effective July 1, 2026, Vietnam Airlines has officially increased the flight frequency on its direct route connecting Kansai International Airport (Osaka) and Da Nang, a highly sought-after coastal destination in central Vietnam. The airline upgraded the service from four to five round-trip flights per week. By adding a new Wednesday flight to the existing schedule of Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday departures, travelers from the Kansai region now have greater flexibility when planning their itineraries. All flights on this expanded route are operated using Airbus A321 aircraft.

The Background: Surging Demand Among Japanese Travelers

The decision to increase flights is directly driven by a remarkable surge in passenger interest. According to recent data from Vietnam Airlines, passenger demand on the Osaka-Da Nang route has skyrocketed by 116% compared to the same period last year. Taking current economic conditions and exchange rates into account, Da Nang is increasingly viewed by Japanese travelers as an ideal short- to medium-haul destination. Its combination of pristine beaches, accessible cultural heritage sites, and relative affordability makes it highly attractive for leisure travelers looking for rewarding international getaways.

Future Outlook and Bilateral Impact

Initially scheduled to run through the summer timetable ending on October 24, 2026, Vietnam Airlines is also planning to maintain this increased frequency into the winter schedule from October 25 onward.

This sustained expansion is expected to have a profound impact beyond merely offering more seats. For the Kansai region, it opens up robust opportunities for bilateral tourism and business exchanges with Southeast Asia. While more travelers from Osaka will find it easier to explore central Vietnam, the enhanced connectivity will simultaneously boost inbound tourism from Vietnam to the Kansai area. This reciprocal flow will not only strengthen Da Nang’s position as a growing international aviation gateway but also provide a steady economic stimulus to Osaka’s local tourism and retail sectors in the coming years.
